Be a part of film festival history! Welcome to the internationally recognized "Longest Student-Run Film Festival in the World"! What began as a way to show their own films, two Humboldt State University students--here in the beautiful redwoods on the coast of northern California--began the festival way back in 1967. For 55 years, the student-body of Humboldt State University has been inviting independent filmmakers (working in traditional and experimental modes) to enter their film shorts for the event.

ATTENTION: Scammers have targeted our online local crew list. A 415 phone number, using various names, has been asking locals to do pre-production work for a fake production. He has been asking local crew to set up a production office for a production that is supposedly coming to town. He went so far as to send out a fake check to the person being scammed. They are using this as an opportunity to get personal details such as social security numbers in what appears to be a phishing scam.

Come together to watch the Oscars in style, as the Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission partners with the historic Eureka Theater to present the 8th annual Red Carpet Gala on March 12th, 2023. The event begins at 4:30 PM as guests arrive and walk the red carpet into the Streamline Modern lobby of the Eureka Theater. Inside the lobby, guests can mingle and schmooze with fellow movie fans and social butterflies, sample scrumptious hors d'oeuvres, and quaff fabulous cocktails from the no-host bar, while enjoying music.

Forest Moon Festival, Two-County Wide Event Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Return of the Jedi

On June 2nd and 3rd of 2023, the Humboldt Del Norte Film Commission will be hosting the 1 st Annual Forest Moon Festival, sponsored by Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. Star Wars Fans, this is the summer event you are looking for. It will commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Return of the Jedi, the Star Wars film that featured Humboldt and Del Norte Counties as the forest moon of Endor, the final battleground between the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire. The Forest Moon Festival will span across the two counties. Businesses, pop-ups, community partners, and existing events are invited to theme-out in Star Wars fashion and offer activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Movies in the Park 2023

The Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission invites you to come to Eureka’s Sequoia Park for the 2023 season of Movies in the Park outdoor movie screenings. This summer will feature a kid’s classic from the 90’s as well as a studio film that shot in various local sites, including Fern Canyon. Can you guess what they are? To find out more details on the movies that will be playing, including a brief synopsis, visit our website. The free event starts at 7:00 PM with music provided by Radio Paradise, followed by cartoons, and then the feature film starting at dusk, around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 26 at 3550 W Street in Eureka. The public is encouraged to dress warm and find a place on the lawn for blankets and lawn chairs. Feel free to bring snacks to enjoy while watching the film.

Visiting Filmmaker: Lauren Wolkstein

Lauren Wolkstein is an award-winning narrative filmmaker and television director. She most recently directed two episodes of the Rachel Weisz & Alice Birch remake of David Cronenberg's DEAD RINGERS and the finale of Nick Antosca's A FRIEND OF THE FAMILY for Peacock. She also served as the Producing Director for Season 5 of Ava DuVernay's critically acclaimed QUEEN SUGAR (helming a total of six episodes for the show), and she has directed episodes of FX's Y: THE LAST MAN, Marvel's CLOAK & DAGGER, and USA's DARE ME. Her debut feature THE STRANGE ONES, starring Alex Pettyfer and James Freedson-Jackson, premiered to critical acclaim at SXSW '17 and was one of John Waters favorite films of the year.

Casting Call in the Redwood Region

CASTING HUMBOLDT COUNTY & EUREKA LOCAL TALENT AS EXTRAS IN UPCOMING FEATURE FILM Casting Directors Tracy Dixon & Kelly Hunt are holding an (online) casting call for those interested in working on the Feature Film, "BC", in Eureka, CA. Those who are selected to work on the project as extras will be paid. Shooting begins in mid-January, and the production is looking to hire many locals to work as extras on the film. The online casting call will be open to men and women of all ethnicities, of all ages, 12 or older. If you are a minor (age 17 and younger) please have your parent/guardian submit information on your behalf. HOW TO SUBMIT: EMAIL YOUR CURRENT PHOTO, preferably two best photos.

9th Annual Red Carpet Gala 2024

Fresh off the heels of BC Project wrapping, the Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission is partnering with the historic Eureka Theater to present the community-favorite 9th annual Red Carpet Gala on March 10th, 2024. The Gala includes community awards for private/public entities and individuals that have excelled at being film friendly in our region. For over 100 years, filmmakers have captured the region's unique locations, embraced local talent, and energized the local economy with a steady stream of productions in every type of media. Most recent and noteworthy being the BC Project starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn. The doors will open at 3:30pm as glammed and dressed up folks in our community arrive to walk the red carpet into the Streamline Modern lobby of the Eureka Theater.
